I'm using Ortro to monitor 6 physical machines and a variable number of virtual machines (such as 7 or 8) for my company. It changed my life, seriously. Previously I've used monitoring software like nagios or zabbix, but the simplicity, scalability and the reliability of Ortro convinced me to change. Its goals, IMHO, are: the simple configuration (all via GUI), the notification system (simple and strong) and, last but not least, the plugin system, that allow me to write new checks and customize software at my needs with a few lines of code. There's nothing to say: it's a very good piece of code!

I'm using ortro as my central scheduler as a substitute for the standard cron on about 20 virtual Linuxes (Ubuntu and Debian). (It's a home environment) This change did a significant improvement to my workload. Especially the load peaks caused by synchronously running jobs on all machines often stucked my iSCSI SAN. In this context my backupjobs with rsync are also done (serialized and smooth!). For monitoring I continue to use Nagios3 with pnp and ndo because I wrote tons of specialized plugins in shell and perl (actually I have 77 Servers with 608 Services beeing monitored. Ortro is a great work for unix and Windows admins to create work and production plans. Very good and stable. (Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS)
